SAIA APPROVED 

In an effort to provide the short-term insurance industry in South Africa with its own standards body focusing on products and systems specific to insurers, the SAIA has been negotiating with various stakeholders of associated industries to establish SAIA Approved (Pty) Ltd. 

The South African Intruder Detection Security Association (SAIDSA) is the first partner of the SAIA in the “SAIA Approved” initiative. In terms of the agreement, all security installations, monitoring services and armed response services performed by SAIDSA members will be performed in accordance with SAIDSA standards. These standards have been approved by the SAIA. In addition, every installation done according to the agreed standard will result in a certificate of compliance being issued to the consumer. This certificate will be captured onto a database held by the SAIA Approved Company.  

SMC Software has been chosen to provide the technological solution to this business initiative. All certification will be done using the latest internet technologies for ease of use and universal availability (CERT3000). 

In addition to the agreement already concluded with SAIDSA the SAIA has engaged in discussions with the Vehicle Security Association (VESA), which has seen VESA becoming the second partner association of the SAIA. SMC Software has rolled out the VESA certification program which has been distributed to all their members via the internet. 

Insurers can access vehicle certification information e.g. immobilisers and tracking system installations via the internet in order to validate claims and policies. 

The SAIA is also involved in discussions with the Plumbers Association regarding geyser installation verification, security gate manufacturers and electric fence manufacturers, all of which have expressed interest in becoming involved as future partners.
